"Althea" is a specific clone (cultivar, or CV) of Trichocereus Peruvianus, a type of columnar cactus often referred to as "San Pedro" cactus. Here's what's known about it:

Origin: 'Althea' originated from seeds distributed by "IcarosDNA" and is considered a member of the Trichocereus Peruvianus var. Matucana group. It was originally isolated, cloned, and distributed by a US-based grower named GeeBee.

Characteristics:

Appearance: It's described as being "extremely glaucous" (having a waxy, bluish-white coating) and "short spined." It's also noted for favoring girth, meaning it tends to grow thick.

Growth Rate: 'Althea' is generally considered a slow grower, possibly even slower than other well-known Trichocereus clones like 'Sharxx Blue'.

Propagation: Like most specific cultivars of Trichocereus, 'Althea' is propagated clonally (through cuttings or grafts) to ensure genetic consistency. Seeds from 'Althea' or crosses involving 'Althea' will not necessarily produce exact 'Althea' plants.

Popularity: 'Althea' is a sought-after clone among cactus enthusiasts and collectors due to its unique appearance and genetics. This demand, combined with its slower growth and the need for clonal propagation, can make it relatively expensive.

Growing Conditions: Like other Trichocereus Peruvianus, 'Althea' prefers well-draining soil and a temperate climate. While they can tolerate full sun in some conditions, morning and/or evening sun with partial shade is often ideal to prevent sunburn, especially in hotter climates. They are susceptible to fungal diseases if over-watered, but generally more forgiving than many other cacti. Little to no watering is needed during winter dormancy.

In summary, 'Althea' is a distinct and highly valued clone of Trichocereus Peruvianus, known for its glaucous appearance, short spines, and tendency to grow thick. Its origin from specific genetics and its propagation via cloning contribute to its popularity and sometimes higher price in the collector market.
