Nuestra Bonita was named by Reily Wallerstein in 2018. Also known as "Cruelty" and "DAFQ" from other community members. From what I can gather, there was some confusion on if this was the same plant but it seems to be agreed upon now that this is it's own thing.. Property owner has been cutting pieces and throwing them down the hillside making a very nice patch of Nuestra Bonita. 'Nuestra Bonita' is a popular cultivar (CV.) of Trichocereus Pachanoi, commonly known as San Pedro cactus. It's highly regarded among cactus enthusiasts for its distinct characteristics.

Here's what is known about 'Nuestra Bonita' cuttings:

Key Characteristics:

Appearance: 'Nuestra Bonita' is described as a very nice Southern California Pachanoi that grows very round and full. A notable feature is that it tends to show two small downward spines on many of its areoles, which gives it a unique and special look. It's often described as "THICK!!"

Origin: This clone was reportedly found growing in an older neighborhood in San Diego.

Alternative Names: It's also known by the names "Dafuq" and "Cruelty" within the cactus community, sometimes due to confusion or informal naming as cuttings were passed around.

Growth: Like other Trichocereus Pachanoi, it's a columnar, fast-growing cactus that can reach significant heights.

Propagating from Cuttings:

Propagating Trichocereus Pachanoi (including 'Nuestra Bonita') from cuttings is a common and relatively straightforward process. Here are the general steps and considerations:

Select a Healthy Cutting: Choose a healthy, mature segment of the cactus with robust growth and vibrant color. Cuttings are typically 6-24 inches long, with larger ones being more manageable for rooting.

Make the Cut: Use a clean, sharp pruning shear or knife. A 45° angle is often recommended, or at a joint if taking an offset.

Callus the Cutting: This is a crucial step to prevent rot. After taking the cutting, allow the cut end to dry and form a firm, white callus. This typically takes at least 2 weeks, but can be longer. Place the cutting in a bright, well-ventilated, dry location. Turning the cactus regularly during this time can help prevent etiolation (stretching) or aerial roots.

Rooting Medium: Plant the callused end in a well-draining potting mix. A mix with pumice or perlite is recommended for good drainage.

Planting and Initial Care: Bury the cutting deep enough to provide stability (e.g., about 1 inch for small cuttings, deeper for taller ones). Avoid watering for 4-8 weeks after planting until you see signs of root development. The cutting may shrink or shrivel slightly as it uses its stored water, which is normal.

Watering After Rooting: Once roots begin to show (new growth from the tip or offsets, or gentle tugging confirms stability), water lightly and allow the soil to dry completely between waterings. Gradually increase watering as the roots become more established. Overwatering can lead to rot, especially with new roots.

Light and Temperature: Place the potted cutting in a warm, bright location, ideally with indirect sunlight initially. Trichocereus Pachanoi generally prefers bright light but can get sunburned if introduced to intense direct sun too quickly. They are resilient and can tolerate colder temperatures than many other cacti once established, but optimal growth occurs in warmer conditions.

Patience: Rooting can take time, so patience is key.

Where to Find Cuttings:

'Nuestra Bonita' cuttings are often available from specialized cactus nurseries or online vendors, like The Succulent Source or Villohome, who frequently list specific clone cuttings.

Important Note: While Trichocereus Pachanoi contains alkaloids, including mescaline, it's crucial to remember that its sale and cultivation in many regions are primarily for ornamental purposes only. Any discussion of non-ornamental usage can lead to legal issues and potential restrictions from sellers.

Disclaimer: Information about specific cactus cultivars can sometimes be found within online cactus communities and from specialized vendors. All clones and hybrids intended for ornamental use only.
