Hutchison 1597 plants came from a Berkeley Botanical Garden plant sale around 2006 and has been growing and spreading to the community since. According to K. Trout, "Sadly the display specimens of P.C. Hutchison 1597 periodically experiences heavy predation by thieves and is removed from public display to enable it to recover and survive."
Collected as a live clone by Paul C. Hutchison on October 10, 1957 above and east of town along road to Piura at elevation 2550 m (8350'). Huancabamba Province, Piura Department, Peru.
