"Justin" refers to a specific, named clone of Trichocereus Pachanoi.
Here's what is known about it:
Origin: The 'Justin' clone is an Australian clone. It was named and distributed by Shaman Australis Botanicals (SAB) nursery. The name itself comes from a former Nursery Manager at SAB, named Justin (the first one!), who brought it into the nursery.
Species: It is identified as Trichocereus Pachanoi.
Key Characteristics:
Appearance: 'Justin' is described as a very attractive Pachanoi. Its stems are typically light to dark green, and can occasionally be glaucous (having a bluish-white waxy coating). They can grow up to 15cm (about 6 inches) in diameter and usually have an average of 5-8 ribs.
Spines: The white or grey areoles can produce numerous spines, which can be up to 2cm (about 0.8 inches) long or more. However, in cultivated varieties, these are typically shorter and can sometimes be almost spineless. The length of the spines seems to depend on environmental conditions.
Growth Habit: It's known to grow fast and fat, forming multiple branches, usually extending from the base. It can reach heights of 3-6 meters (10-20 feet) tall in ideal conditions.
Areoles: The areoles are spaced evenly alongside the ribs, between 1-2cm apart.
Cultivation:
Rooting: Cuttings need to be callused (dried and healed) for several days before planting. It is considered one of the easier cacti to root at home.
Soil: Requires a free-draining soil, ideally a half-and-half mixture of high-quality potting mix (with well-composted pine bark and large particles for airflow and drainage) and perlite.
Light: Thrives in full sun.
Watering: Do not water until roots have formed. Overwatering or poor drainage can lead to root rot.
Humidity: High humidity is not ideal; it should be positioned in an airy location to avoid rot.
Availability: 'Justin' cuttings are offered by specialized cactus nurseries, particularly in Australia. It is generally sold as rootless cuttings that need to be callused and rooted by the buyer.
Popularity: There's a comment suggesting it's an "absolute stunner" and "damn near perfect," indicating its desirability among collectors.
Disclaimer: Information about specific cactus cultivars can sometimes be found within online cactus communities and from specialized vendors. All clones and hybrids intended for ornamental use only.
