"SKIP" is a recognized cultivar (CV stands for Cultivar, meaning "cultivated variety") within the Trichocereus genus, which is now largely encompassed by Echinopsis. Specifically, "SKIP" is a clone of Trichocereus pachanoi (often referred to as San Pedro cactus).
Here's what is known about "SKIP":
Origin and Naming: The cultivar was originally known as "Campground" because its source was near a campground. It was later named "SKIP" due to its distinctive characteristic of "skipping areoles."
Key Characteristic: Skipping Areoles: This is the most defining feature of "SKIP." Areoles are the small, cushion-like structures on cacti from which spines, flowers, and new growth emerge. While other Trichocereus and Pachanoi varieties can occasionally exhibit skipped areoles (gaps where areoles would normally be), "SKIP" does so far more consistently. This trait might not always be immediately apparent on cuttings, but it typically becomes visible as the plant grows.
Appearance: "SKIP" is described as a beautiful specimen with a "great glaucus" (a waxy, whitish or bluish-green coating) for a Pachanoi. Like other Trichocereus Pachanoi, it is a fast-growing columnar cactus.

John's Jamon- Reportedly comes from a mother stand in Yucaipa and appears to be Pachanoi but may be Santaensis. Gets very notchy and pretty. John's Jamon" is a cultivar (CV) of Trichocereus cactus, often discussed within communities dedicated to Trichocereus species like San Pedro cactus. Here's what's known about it:
Origin: It originated from a specific, established stand of Trichocereus (likely Trichocereus pachanoi or a closely related species/hybrid) that was found and propagated by a person named John (or "John Hammock" as some sources suggest). This "mother stand" was noted for thriving even in poor soil conditions, suggesting a resilient nature.
Characteristics: Like many Trichocereus cultivars, "John's Jamon" is recognized by its specific genetic lineage. While environmental factors can influence the appearance of any Trichocereus clone, "John's Jamon" would generally maintain certain identifying characteristics that distinguish it from other cultivars. These characteristics are primarily of interest to collectors and enthusiasts who value different genetic lines.
Circulation: "John's Jamon" is considered a relatively new or less widely circulated cultivar. It was introduced and initially sold in limited quantities, meaning it hasn't spread as extensively among collectors as some other, older Trichocereus clones. This can make it more sought after by those looking to diversify their collections.
Collector's Item: The practice of naming and collecting specific Trichocereus cultivars like "John's Jamon" is common among hobbyists. It allows for the tracking of genetics and the appreciation of subtle differences in growth habits, spine patterns, or other features that distinguish one clone from another.

Disclaimer: Information about specific cactus cultivars can sometimes be found within online cactus communities and from specialized vendors. All clones and hybrids intended for ornamental use only.
