Bring a piece of the African desert into your collection with the rare Euphorbia baioensis. This striking, heavily spiny succulent forms sculptural, upright clusters of blue-green and lime stems, with gorgeous contrast from copper-red and steel-gray thorns. Perfect for collectors, cactus enthusiasts, and xeriscape gardens, this low-maintenance plant makes a bold architectural statement.

Provenance

  • Native Region: East Africa, endemic to the Baio Valley in Kenya.
  • Habitat: Tropical deserts and arid, rocky, sunlit scrublands.

Care Guide

  • Light: Full sun to bright, direct light. A south- or west-facing window is ideal indoors.
  • Water: Drench and dry — allow soil to dry out completely between waterings. Keep dry during winter dormancy.
  • Soil: Exceptionally fast-draining mix; a cactus blend enriched with 50–75% mineral grit, coarse sand, or perlite is ideal.
  • Temperature: Thrives between 60°F and 85°F. Protect from cold drafts and frost below 40–50°F.
  • Toxicity: The milky latex sap is highly toxic and causes skin and eye irritation. Always wear protective gloves and eyewear when handling or propagating cuttings.
