Euphorbia lactea 'Variegata', commonly known as the White Ghost Cactus or Variegated Dragon Bones, is a striking structural succulent shrub prized for its pale, ethereal appearance. Despite its common names and thorny ridges, it is not a true cactus but a member of the Euphorbiaceae family. The plant features a candelabra-like growth habit with angular stems marbled in creamy white, silver, and pale green — the result of dramatically reduced chlorophyll.
Available in 4", 6", 1-gallon, and custom Kenny Smith pot options.
Care Guide
- Light: Bright, indirect to direct light; 4–6+ hours daily. Intense full sun can cause bleaching on the pale stems.
- Water: Soak and dry — allow soil to dry completely between waterings. Keep dry in winter dormancy.
- Soil: Fast-draining mineral cactus mix with high grit content.
- Temperature: USDA Zones 10–11; protect from frost and temperatures below 40°F.
- Toxicity: Milky latex sap is toxic and a skin/eye irritant — always wear gloves when handling or cutting.
