Pachypodium Namaquanum

• Origin: It is native to the arid, rocky mountains of southern Namibia and the South African province of Namaqualand.
• Appearance: This is a warty, thick-stemmed succulent covered in sharp spines, with a crown of densely velvety, wavy leaves at the top during its growing season. The tip is often bent northward toward the sun.
• Size: In its natural habitat, it can reach up to 16 feet tall, but as a houseplant, it generally stays much smaller, around 6 feet.
• Growth Cycle: It is a winter grower, meaning its active growing season is typically from fall to spring (around November to April). It goes dormant during the hot summer months, often shedding its leaves.
• Light: It requires abundant, bright, and direct light. It thrives in full sun but may need light shade outdoors in extremely hot climates to prevent scorching.
• Watering: It is very drought-tolerant and rot-prone, so it must be planted in well-draining soil. During its winter growing season, water moderately, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. During its summer dormancy, water very little or not at all.
• Toxicity: The plant contains poisonous sap, and it can cause skin and eye irritation or blindness upon contact. Always handle with caution and wear protective gear.
