The Huariquiña rare cactus clone is a standout addition to any desert landscape or indoor collection. Originating from the rugged Matucana region of Peru, this high-altitude specialist is prized for its breathtaking glaucous blue skin and architectural ribbing. Unlike standard columnar varieties, the Huariquiña strain displays a versatile growth habit, often transitioning from upright columns to a prostrate form as it matures. Its short, honey-hued spines provide a cleaner look that emphasizes its vibrant skin tone, while its large, night-blooming white flowers offer a spectacular seasonal display. Hardy and slow-growing, this rare cactus thrives in well-draining soil and bright, indirect light.
- Appearance: It features beautiful blue-green to glaucous light-blue skin. The stems typically have 6 to 9 rounded ribs.
- Spines: It is characterized by having shorter-than-normal spine formations for its species. The spines are typically honey-colored or brown and emerge from large areoles.
- Flowers: When mature, it produces large, fragrant, white flowers that bloom at night. These flowers are often covered in black to brown hairs on the exterior.
- Origin: It is native to the high-altitude Andes Mountains of Peru, specifically the Matucana region, thriving at elevations between 1,000 and 2,500 meters.
