Rare Cactus - Columnar Cactus Hybrid - (DRGxCHAL)
Rare Cactus - Columnar Cactus Hybrid - (DRGxCHAL) - 3-5" is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
Add a touch of architectural elegance to your collection with the Dr. G. Scop x Chalaensis VRG. This exceptional Rare Cactus hybrid brings together the best of two worlds: the smooth, thick-ribbed stature of the legendary 'Dr. G' cultivar and the rugged, furrowed beauty of the coastal Peruvian Chaleansis. Known for its vigorous growth and striking green hue, this seedling is an ideal choice for both novice and experienced growers seeking a standout ornamental piece. Its low-maintenance needs and hardy nature make it a perfect fit for sunny patios or bright indoor spaces.
- Parentage: T. scopulicola is a Bolivian species known for being nearly spineless with thick, rounded ribs and a smooth, dark-green body. T. chalaensis is a rare coastal Peruvian species characterized by 7–9 ribs, strong horizontal furrows above the areoles, and striking dark-brown to red spines.
- Appearance: As a hybrid, it often displays the thick, robust growth of the 'Dr. G' parent but may express the more prominent spination and unique rib furrowing of the chalaensis lineage.
- Growth & Care: It is a fast-growing columnar cactus that thrives in full sun and requires extremely well-draining soil (at least 50% inorganic material like pumice). It should only be watered when the soil is completely dry and the body feels slightly soft.
- Flowers: While young seedlings like the one pictured do not flower, mature plants typically produce large, white, night-blooming flowers that are often fragrant.
